Description
What kind of wine it is
Zenato's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a Venetian red wine produced from an elegant blend of Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Croatina, and Oseleta. This expression of excellence falls under the prestigious DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) designation, representing a structured, complex, and deeply enveloping style. The aromatic profile offers intense notes of black cherries in alcohol, liquorice, and delicate balsamic echoes, supported by a majestic structure and noble tannins. The result of a long drying process and prolonged ageing in oak barrels, it is distinguished by a warm, velvety palate with remarkable longevity.
Where it comes from
This majestic red is born in the historic heart of Valpolicella, specifically in the hillside vineyards of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella in Veneto. The vines, which boast an average age of thirty years, grow at an altitude of between 300 and 350 metres above sea level, benefiting from excellent south-eastern exposure. The soil in this area is predominantly chalky and calcareous, enriched by a strong stony component that ensures excellent water drainage. This specific soil composition, combined with the unique climatic conditions, shapes the wine's intense character, favouring a natural aromatic concentration.
How it is produced
The production process begins between the end of September and the beginning of October with a rigorous manual harvest of the bunches. Subsequently, the grapes are placed in drying rooms for a drying period of three to four months, an essential technical step to favour the concentration of sugars and aromas. After this stage, crushing and a slow maceration on the skins for fifteen to twenty days at a controlled temperature take place. Ageing takes place for a minimum of thirty-six months in large oak casks, before concluding with a further period of resting in the bottle prior to release.
History and curiosities
