Description
What type of wine is it
The Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone from the Vietti winery is a still organic red wine that embodies the pure character of the Barbera variety grown in Piedmont. Recognised under the Barbera d'Alba Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC), this wine stands out for its full, dry body, supported by a vibrant freshness and an aromatic profile reminiscent of ripe red cherries and sweet spices. Its elegant structure is the result of careful artisanal processing involving cold maceration and long ageing in wood. Thanks to its long, clean finish, it is ideally paired with roasted meats, game, and aged cheeses, revealing the roots of its terroir.
Where it comes from
This Piedmontese red comes to life in the renowned municipality of Castiglione Falletto, within the prestigious Langhe area. The grapes come exclusively from the Scarrone Vineyard, a plot that enjoys a favourable south-eastern exposure, a fundamental condition for ensuring the optimal and consistent ripening of the bunches. The agronomic management strictly follows the principles of organic farming, respecting the peculiarities of a soil historically suited to producing the highest quality grapes. The interaction between local territorial characteristics and the microclimate gives the fruit an ideal concentration before moving on to the transformation phases in the cellar.
How it is produced
Winemaking begins with a manual harvest, followed by pre-fermentation cold maceration to gently extract aromatic precursors. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in open steel vats for about two weeks, accompanied by constant mechanical punching down and pumping over, followed by post-fermentation maceration in contact with the skins. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to barriques for malolactic fermentation, an essential step in defining its structure. The eighteen-month ageing is balanced between steel, barriques, and wooden casks, giving the product its final complexity before being prepared for consumption.
