Description
What kind of wine it is
Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Vigneto di Popoli by Valle Reale is a refined still white wine made exclusively from Trebbiano grapes. It expresses the essence of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo through a clear profile, characterised by vibrant freshness and savouriness. Visually, it displays a golden straw-yellow colour, while on the nose it reveals a complex aromatic profile: mineral and smoky notes intertwine with hints of saffron, citron, wildflower honey and white pepper, enriched by nuances of lychee, candied pineapple, mint, sage and gooseberry. On the palate, it is elegant and enveloping, with a long-lasting flavour enhanced by lively citrus and mineral notes.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Abruzzo, in the Vigneto di Popoli, situated between 350 and 400 metres above sea level. The vines, rooted in stony soils poor in clay, impart a distinct mineral character to the taste. The intense afternoon breezes from the gorges cool the environment during summer and encourage sudden rainfall. Lower sun exposure, together with more frequent rain compared to the Capestrano area, ensures the health of the vines and a balanced ripening, enhancing the natural acidity of the grapes.
How it is produced
The vineyard management follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture, aiming to deeply regenerate the soil. In the winery, the must undergoes a continuous fermentation that proceeds without technical interruptions, stabilising the natural biological process and preserving the aromatic integrity of the fruit. This rigorous approach allows the mineral component and the strength of the terroir to fully express themselves, resulting in a structured and persistent wine, perfectly balanced between finesse, tension and a pleasant savouriness.
History and Curiosities
Born in the vineyards of Popoli at an altitude of 350-400 metres, the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC 2018 from Valle Reale masterfully combines tradition and character. On soils rich in stones and poor in clay, the vines thrive thanks to virtuous biodynamic agriculture. The providential ventilation from the gorges and the rainfall mitigated the summer heat, ensuring exceptionally healthy plants. Through uninterrupted fermentations, a structured white wine comes to life which, boasting 92 points from Robert Parker, offers a savoury and vibrant sip.

This gives rise to original wines, a faithful imprint of terroir and cultivated varieties, exclusively traditional. Six labels presented this year, of which as many as five really distance themselves by a whisker and which sees the return of Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Vigneto Sant’Eusanio.
The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Vigneto di Popoli, on the other hand, lends itself and places itself on the podium, with its ample and complex bouquet and clean, warm and persistent taste. Great absentees this year Il Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Vigna del Convento di Capestrano 2016, not produced due to the violent frost suffered in April of that year, and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo San Calisto, whose grapes did not reach the phenolic maturity desired again because of frosts and that we will find again with the 2015 vintage in the next editions of the Guide.
