Description

What type of wine it is

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Vigna del Convento di Capestrano is a still white wine produced by Valle Reale, an expression of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo. Obtained from Trebbiano grapes grown according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture, it has a straw-yellow colour with bright green-gold reflections. On the palate, it reveals a measured balance between acidity and sapidity, supported by a decisive gustatory progression. The finish is persistent and characterised by clear mineral echoes.

Where it comes from

This wine comes from Abruzzo, in the territory of Popoli near Contrada San Calisto. The vineyards are situated in a landscape surrounded by protected natural areas, at an altitude between 350 and 400 metres above sea level. The vines take root in soils rich in rock fragments with a moderate presence of clay. This geological formation translates into a clear mineral imprint in the glass, ensuring an acid-sapid tension that promotes the precision of the aromatic profile.

How it is produced

Vinification follows biodynamic philosophy to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Maturation takes place in stainless steel for six months, a technical choice aimed at enhancing the cleanliness and freshness of the aromas. The olfactory examination reveals an intertwining of aromatic herbs that introduces notes of yellow rose, wisteria, and freesia. Fresh hints of lemon zest, Annurca apple, and white mulberry then emerge, harmoniously fused with hints of white pepper and constant mineral nuances.

A company, that of Valle Reale, in that of Popoli, which works well, managing to put tradition and personality into its wines. The intent is, in fact, to respect, on the one hand the viticultural history of the area, and on the other, bring it forward and characterize it through the modern technologies present in the cellar. The vineyards are located between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, on soils rich in skeleton with limited presence of clay.

This gives rise to original wines, a faithful imprint of terroir and cultivated varieties, exclusively traditional. Six labels presented this year, of which as many as five really distance themselves by a whisker and which sees the return of Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Vigneto Sant’Eusanio.

The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Vigneto di Popoli, on the other hand, lends itself and places itself on the podium, with its ample and complex bouquet and clean, warm and persistent taste. Great absentees this year Il Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Vigna del Convento di Capestrano 2016, not produced due to the violent frost suffered in April of that year, and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo San Calisto, whose grapes did not reach the phenolic maturity desired again because of frosts and that we will find again with the 2015 vintage in the next editions of the Guide.
