Description

Wine Description

Torre Rosazza's Friuli Grave Chardonnay DOC is a still white wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia that clearly expresses the region's character. This wine reveals a clear aromatic profile where hints of citrus, apple, pear and white peach intertwine, accompanied by fresh notes of white flowers and light herbaceous nuances. On the palate, it is harmonious and enveloping, supported by a good body and well-integrated acidity, closing with a clean persistence and a dry finish. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees, this wine is an ideal choice for an aperitif, as well as for pairing with fish dishes and white meats.

Provenance

The vines are grown in Oleis di Manzano and on the Spilimbergo plain, at an altitude of approximately 130 metres. The Friuli Grave territory is distinguished by its alluvial soils, composed of a sandy surface layer resting on a deep bed of limestone and dolomitic pebbles. This particular soil structure encourages significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, which are essential for preserving the aromatic elegance of the Chardonnay. The temperate climate, protected by the Friulian Dolomites and mitigated by the influence of the Adriatic Sea, ensures balanced ripening of the grapes. Torre Rosazza manages its vineyards following strict organic practices.

Production Process

The harvest begins in early September, with yields of 100 quintals per hectare. In the cellar, the bunches undergo soft pressing to extract high-quality musts. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, a fundamental technical choice to maintain the integrity of the primary aromas. Subsequently, the wine undergoes ageing on the lees for at least three months, also in stainless steel. This period enriches the depth of flavour and confers a solid structure, ensuring a persistent and balanced sip.

History and Fascinating Facts

Founded in 1972, Torre Rosazza enhances the gravelly alluvial soils of the Friuli Grave DOC, which are ideal for bestowing elegance on the wines. Under the guidance of Enrico Raddi, the organic grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve clear fruity notes. Ageing on the lees in stainless steel for three months gives this 100% Chardonnay an enveloping structure, authentically celebrating the extraordinary viticultural richness of the Friulian region.

We have always connected with the entire Friuli region, not just with the hills where we live. Friuli is a borderland. An outpost of modernity. Italian and Central European. A crossroads of cultures and trade. A meeting point for peoples and traditions. Many identities, a single soul.

In the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and especially in Torre Rosazza, the growing of grapevines has a very ancient history. Already known in Roman times, grapes were also grown in the Middle Ages, along with other crops such as olives and grains. In those years, wine was a commodity or a bargaining chip that demonstrated a family’s wealth.

Noble elegance. The history of Torre Rosazza has been tied to the Antonini family, part of the Udine nobility, since the 1600s. Already the lords of the agricultural estate, the Antonini restored the medieval tower and built the villa that became their home in the hills: Turris Rosacea.

After the Antonini, Torre Rosazza passed to the De Marchi family. But more than any other event, the biggest mark on its history was left by the two World Wars. After the Battle of Caporetto, the estate came under Austrian control before returning to Italy at the end of the war. During the World War II it was the scene of fighting between the German occupation army and the Italian Resistance.
