Description

Type of wine

Peperino Teruzzi is a still red wine from Tuscany with a Typical Geographical Indication. Made from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, it is characterised by a bouquet where fruity freshness meets subtle toasted notes. On the palate, it proves decisive and full-bodied, supported by balanced tannins that do not overwhelm the sip. The tasting concludes with a persistent finish, ideal for enhancing rich dishes such as braised meats and roasts.

Origin

This wine comes to life in Tuscany, in the San Gimignano area, originating from vineyards located in the Casetta locality. Here, Teruzzi carefully selects the grapes, shaping a red with a dry and authentic character.

Production process

The process involves a staggered harvest to respect the ripeness of the grapes, which are processed with destemming and alcoholic fermentation. Maceration at a controlled temperature takes place in truncated conical tanks. The twelve-month ageing is divided between steel and multi-passage French oak barrels, enriching the bouquet without overpowering the fruity notes. The cycle concludes with ageing in vats for a further 6 months.

History and curiosities

This wine pays tribute to the art of Gothic illuminated manuscripts, showcasing the ironic drôleries of amanuensis monks on its label. The surreal warrior rabbit riding a chimerical snail reflects the lively soul and unique aesthetic of Toscana Rosso Peperino.

Teruzzi is the contemporary enhancement of ancient Tuscan history and its centuries-old tradition. In 1974, Enrico Teruzzi, an engineer by profession but a winemaker by vocation, founded the winery with the help of his wife Carmen in the enchanting setting of San Gimignano. In 2016, Terra Moretti acquired the winery. Today, they continue Teruzzi’s path of innovation and tradition, leading the winery’s viticulture to achieve important goals while respecting sustainability. Read more
