Description

What type of wine it is

Stephane Regnault's Champagne Grand Cru Oger Lydien N 119 is an exceptional Traditional Method Blanc de Blancs, made entirely from Chardonnay grapes. Classified as Champagne Grand Cru, it is an Extra Brut style, with an artisanal profile and indigenous yeasts. This wine is deep, creamy, and vertical, offering extraordinary mineral precision and a distinct saline tension on the palate. Ageing takes place partially in barrels and in a perpetual reserve wine, enhancing the complexity and elegance that make it expressive and full of character.

Where it comes from

This prestigious Champagne comes exclusively from the Le Chemin de Flavigny plot, located in the famous commune of Oger, in the Champagne region. The vineyard enjoys an ideal south-facing exposure, with a seven per cent slope. The terroir is characterised by very light topsoil, maintained with natural grass cover, and an intermediate horizon poor in chalk, resting on a subsoil of compact and slightly fractured chalk. These specific territorial and microclimatic conditions give the wine its unmistakable mineral signature and vertical structure.

How it is produced

The production process for this Traditional Method wine is based on artisanal and environmentally friendly viticultural practices, following lunar cycles. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, followed by full malolactic fermentation. For ageing, 75% of the wine rests in barrels and the remaining 25% in perpetual reserve wine. With an extremely limited production of 2,640 bottles, the careful approach at every stage, from fermentation to low dosage, ensures remarkable expressive purity and longevity.

History and interesting facts

The history of this extraordinary Champagne Grand Cru Oger reflects a deeply artisanal approach to viticulture, where vineyard management takes lunar cycles into account and herbal teas and decoctions are used to care for the vines. This artisanal sparkling wine comes exclusively from the Le Chemin de Flavigny plot, characterised by a seven per cent slope and a full south-facing exposure. Production of this artisanal traditional method is extremely limited, with only two thousand six hundred and forty bottles produced in the two thousand and twenty vintage.

The domaine includes four hectares of Chardonnay divided equally between the legendary chalk terroirs of the Grand Cru villages Oger and Le Mesnil. The majority of the vines are between 40 and 60 years old. Stéphane has selected three parcels for his cuvées: Chemin de Flavigny in Oger, Moulin on the border between Oger and Le Mesnil, and Hautes-Mottes in Le Mesnil. These single-vineyard, multi-vintage wines harmonize the individual expression of the vineyard within the multivintage Champenois tradition. Each parcel is fermented and vinified in a similar fashion - ⅔ in stainless steel tanks and ⅓ in used barrels. Read more
