Description
What type of wine it is
Podere 414's Morellino di Scansano is an organic red wine, an authentic expression of the Tuscan Maremma. Classified as Morellino di Scansano, it is created from a blend of Sangiovese, Syrah, Grenache, Colorino and Ciliegiolo. On the nose, it offers rich aromas of ripe red fruit such as cherry and blackberry, enhanced by notes of violet, liquorice, spices and subtle toasted nuances. On the palate, it reveals a balanced and silky structure, with a medium body and velvety tannins that provide a fresh and slightly savoury finish, proving ideal for accompanying hearty dishes.
Where it comes from
This wine has its roots in Magliano in Toscana, in the heart of the Maremma, in the province of Grosseto. Podere 414's vineyards are situated in an area with a warm climate. The agricultural project, established following the 1960 land reform, is based on a rigorous respect for the local area, operating under organic farming practices. The suitability of this area allows the grapes, and particularly the Sangiovese, to develop a high aromatic concentration, reflecting the authenticity of the Maremma landscape in the glass.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest, followed by vinification in concrete tanks and truncated conical vats. Fermentation is triggered spontaneously by indigenous yeasts, with maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature and frequent pump-overs alternated with délestage. To add greater complexity to the blend, the Ciliegiolo undergoes pre-fermentation carbonic maceration, while part of the Grenache undergoes slight drying on the vine. Ageing continues for twelve months in wooden barrels, a process that smooths the tannins without overpowering the original fruity character.
