Description
Style of wine
Pfitscher's Pinot Nero Matan Riserva is a still red wine that perfectly expresses the elegance of Alto Adige. Produced exclusively with Pinot Nero grapes, it belongs to the Alto Adige DOC. This structured and complex wine reveals a medium-bodied, dry and velvety palate, with finely chiselled tannins. Characterised by notes of forest fruits and an ageing potential of 10-20 years, it is perfect for those seeking the authenticity of mountain terroir.
Origin
Pinot Nero Matan Riserva originates from Alto Adige, specifically the Gleno area in the municipality of Montagna, in the province of Bolzano. The vines are grown at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level, in a setting characterised by an authentic mountain climate. The significant diurnal temperature variations between day and night play a fundamental role in the development of the grapes' aromatic profile, giving them an inimitable intensity and a finesse typical of high-altitude wines. This unique terroir, combined with the dedication of the Pfitscher family, active since 1861, gives the wine an elegant structure and a concentrated, vigorous fruit character, fully reflecting the essence of the Alpine environment.
Production process
The production of Pinot Nero Matan Riserva follows principles of sustainability and attention to detail. In the cellar, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in vats, accompanied by continuous punching down (pigeage) of the skins for approximately 14-16 days, allowing for a precise extraction of noble components. Subsequently, the wine matures with ageing on the lees for a period ranging from 12 to 15 months in oak barrels, enriching the bouquet with subtle nuances and ensuring great balance. The process concludes with adequate bottle resting for several months, harmonising the flavour balance and delivering a clean and persistent finish, ideal for accompanying intense dishes.
