Description
What kind of wine it is
The Verduzzo Friulano by Zorzettig is a sweet passito white that fully expresses the potential of the Verduzzo Friulano grape variety. This dessert wine stands out for its brilliant, intense golden yellow colour and clear hints of acacia flowers. On the palate, it offers a harmonious taste balance, skilfully balancing the sugary component with lively acidity and a distinctive tannic texture. The tasting reveals enveloping notes of vanilla and walnut husk, delivering a structured and remarkably persistent drink.
Where it comes from
The Zorzettig vineyards are located in Cividale del Friuli, in the heart of the renowned Colli Orientali del Friuli area. The vines benefit from a temperate climate, protected from the cold winds of the Julian Alps and tempered by breezes from the Adriatic Sea. The soils are composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, derived from ancient marine sediments, which give the wine freshness and a distinct territorial character. These microclimatic and geological conditions ensure a solid structure and excellent ageing potential that can last for several years.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous manual harvest aimed at preserving the integrity of the bunches. This is followed by a meticulous drying process lasting fifteen days before vinification, an essential step to concentrate the aromatic and sugary substances while maintaining the natural freshness of the Verduzzo Friulano. This process enhances the organoleptic profile, structuring the wine harmoniously. Excellent when served chilled, this passito finds its best expression paired with rich platters of blue and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Born in the shelter of the Julian Alps, Zorzettig's Verduzzo Friulano embodies the excellence of the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC. After being hand-harvested, the grapes undergo a 15-day drying process, which enriches their aromatic profile. This refined sweet white wine, capable of evolving elegantly for ten years, offers notes of vanilla and walnut husk in perfect balance with its natural tannic component.
