Description
What kind of wine it is
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico by Zeni is a Venetian red wine created from a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. Resulting from a slow drying of the grapes, it stands out for its structured and dense style. The aromatic bouquet recalls plum jam and dried fruit, enriched with hints of aromatic herbs, cloves, cocoa and violet. On the palate, it offers a creamy texture, supported by mature tannins and a lively acidity that leads to a long and velvety finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Valpolicella Classica, a historic hilly area located north of Verona. The altitude of the vineyards ensures regular ripening and the development of healthy bunches. The vines sink their roots into red and brown soils, composed of debris, calcareous marl and basalt. This specific geology contributes to the structure of the wine, giving it a marked depth of colour and a pronounced spicy complexity, favouring a harmonious balance between freshness and tannic texture.
How it is produced
Production begins with manual harvesting and careful selection of the most intact bunches. These are placed on trays to rest for several months, a phase necessary to concentrate sugars and aromas. Vinification involves fermentation that includes a prolonged maceration on the skins, essential for extracting colour and substance. Subsequently, the wine matures for a period of two or three years in large oak barrels, with the aid of smaller barrels, thus consolidating the harmony between the natural residual sugars and the acidic component.
History and Curiosities
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG from Cantina F.lli Zeni celebrates Venetian excellence thanks to the meticulous drying of the grapes, a traditional method that concentrates its aromas and structure. The 2022 vintage stands out for its undisputed prestige, awarded the silver medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and the Decanter World Wine Awards. Enhanced by the commemorative seal for the 150th anniversary, this imposing red wine matures patiently in large oak barrels, a testament to a quality recognised over time by Gambero Rosso and James Suckling.
