Description
What kind of wine it is
Santandrea by Vinosia enhances Aglianico, a Campanian grape variety historically celebrated as the Barolo of the South. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of morello cherry jam and dark fruits, enriched by elegant hints of vanilla, anise and nutmeg. The palate reveals a dense structure and concentration, where velvety tannins harmonise with enveloping notes of chocolate and bitter cocoa. A long and persistent finish makes this red the ideal choice to accompany mature cheeses, dark meats and hearty wild boar stews.
Where it comes from
The origins of this wine lie in Irpinia, on the north-west facing slopes of Paternopoli, the chosen land of Taurasi. The vineyards, cultivated at five hundred metres above sea level, thrive thanks to an ideal microclimate, characterised by wide temperature variations that intensify the aromatic expression of the grapes. The roots of the vines sink into typical volcanic soil, enriched with limestone and clay components, which gives the sip great firmness. These precise natural conditions ensure the wine has remarkable longevity, allowing it to evolve beautifully over time.
How it is produced
After the manual harvest in November, the grapes undergo maceration for about twelve days. The subsequent fermentation is partially activated by indigenous yeasts, while malolactic fermentation is completed entirely in French oak to smooth the flavour profile. Ageing consists of fourteen months resting in French oak barrels, followed by a further twenty months maturing in the bottle. This meticulous process fixes a deep ruby colour, delivering a tasting experience enhanced by lively tannins and perfect balance.
