Description
What kind of wine it is
The Chianti Classico Riserva from Villa S. Andrea is a Tuscan red of great elegance, created from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. In the glass, it displays a ruby red colour with subtle garnet highlights. The bouquet is broad and persistent, with clear aromas of red fruits, undergrowth and sweet spices that intertwine harmoniously. On the palate, it is structured and enveloping, supported by densely woven tannins that are perfectly balanced. The sip unfolds into a long and persistent finish, making it the ideal companion for braised meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red is produced in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, in a hilly area historically renowned between Florence and Siena. The vines benefit from excellent southern exposure and grow at around three hundred metres above sea level. The character of the wine is strongly influenced by soils rich in galestro and alberese. In the vineyard, rigorous selection and a low yield per vine ensure optimal concentration and ripening of the grapes, giving this Chianti Classico a solid aromatic persistence and a well-defined balance.
How it is produced
Production begins with hand harvesting of fully ripe grapes into crates. After destemming, fermentation at a controlled temperature is accompanied by a gentle maceration, aimed at precisely extracting colour and structure. The wine then rests for eighteen months in French oak barrels, where it refines its structure and integrates the spicy notes. The process concludes with a year of bottle ageing, which imparts harmony and remarkable evolutionary potential.

In addition to Sangiovese, there are international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The cultivation and oenological practices implemented are in the vanguard but in harmony with traditional cellar practices. Following the ground with a glance, you can see the other buildings and the old cellars, entirely excavated inside the hill and arranged in parallel rows. Here the wine, in silent darkness, softens in the large barrels and small oak barriques.
Recently the vineyards have been renewed according to new quality criteria, with the use of of selected clones, density of plantation higher and with lower production for plant, prioritizing the quality of the result.
Alongside viticulture there is an agricultural activity focused mainly on olive growing; the valleys and flat stretches are instead cultivated with arable crops, on part of which irrigation coming from from the two large lakes they own. The villa, today the focal point of the entire village, completely dominates the area surrounding. Read more
