Description
What kind of wine it is
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Montelodoli is an outstanding Tuscan red produced by Villa S. Andrea. This blend of Sangiovese and Syrah displays a deep ruby colour, enhanced by elegant garnet highlights. The bouquet is broad and complex, with notes of undergrowth blending with hints of blond tobacco, black pepper and a refined minerality. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied structure, supported by dense, grainy tannins and a pleasant freshness. The persistent finish makes it the ideal companion for game dishes and mature cheeses, expressing all its nobility after adequate aeration.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of Tuscany, in the prestigious Chianti Classico region. The vineyards are situated at around 250 metres above sea level and benefit from an east-west exposure that encourages balanced ripening. The marl-rich soils give the wine a distinctive savoury and mineral character, clearly perceptible on the palate. Viticulture is based on careful selection and low yields, aimed at obtaining fruit of great concentration. The estate’s cool underground cellars provide the perfect environment for the wine to rest, enhancing the territorial identity of a red capable of standing the test of time.
How it is produced
Production begins with the manual harvesting of bunches at perfect ripeness. After destemming and crushing, the grapes undergo fermentation at controlled temperature, followed by about three weeks’ maceration to extract the full polyphenolic profile. The process continues with maturation in oak barrels for eighteen months, a crucial stage for imparting roundness and elegance to the wine. A final year’s rest in bottle completes the structural balance, ensuring this Chianti Classico boasts remarkable complexity and extraordinary ageing potential.

In addition to Sangiovese, there are international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The cultivation and oenological practices implemented are in the vanguard but in harmony with traditional cellar practices. Following the ground with a glance, you can see the other buildings and the old cellars, entirely excavated inside the hill and arranged in parallel rows. Here the wine, in silent darkness, softens in the large barrels and small oak barriques.
Recently the vineyards have been renewed according to new quality criteria, with the use of of selected clones, density of plantation higher and with lower production for plant, prioritizing the quality of the result.
Alongside viticulture there is an agricultural activity focused mainly on olive growing; the valleys and flat stretches are instead cultivated with arable crops, on part of which irrigation coming from from the two large lakes they own.
