Description

What kind of wine it is

Villa S. Andrea Chianti Classico is a still red wine with a distinctly Tuscan character. This blend of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes appears in the glass with a deep ruby red colour and bright violet highlights. On the nose, it offers a distinctly fruity profile, enriched by elegant and subtle hints of oak. On the palate, it reveals a broad and smooth texture, where sweet tannins are perfectly balanced by a pleasant freshness. The finish is long and enveloping, recalling notes of red fruits and spices, making it ideal for pairing with flavourful meats, game or mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine from the Chianti Classico denomination is produced in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, in the lands surrounding the historic Borgo di Fabbrica. The vineyards of Villa S. Andrea are located at around 300 metres above sea level, enjoying optimal sun exposure. The vines, trained using the spurred cordon system, sink their roots into the characteristic galestro soil, which is essential for giving the wine structure and finesse. The agronomic management aims for low yields per vine, ensuring high quality and concentration of the fruit.

How it is produced

Production begins with meticulous manual harvesting of the grapes, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature. Prolonged maceration on the skins ensures the extraction of intense colour and defined aromas. Ageing takes place for twelve months in French oak barrels, followed by a further six months resting in the bottle. This maturation allows the tannins to harmonise and the exuberance of the fruit to blend precisely with the delicate spicy nuances imparted by the wood.

History and Curiosities

Located in the ancient village of Fabbrica, between Florence and Siena, the Villa S. Andrea estate embodies the excellence of Chianti Classico DOCG. The vineyards, rooted in galestro soils at an altitude of 250-300 metres, benefit from an ideal exposure that enhances the grapes, which are meticulously hand-picked. This profound artisanal dedication is celebrated by the prestigious 1716 seal on the label, a symbol of a wine that faithfully honours its centuries-old Tuscan tradition and deep connection to its land of origin.

The Villa S. Andrea is located in the heart of Tuscany, between the provinces of Florence and Siena. It covers more than 600 hectares in the Chianti Classico area within the ancient Borgo di Fabbrica where there are also the Church and the Villa Padronale from which it takes its name. The slopes around the Villa, about 50 hectares, all with optimal exposure and 250 m. above sea level, have been used as vineyards mainly for the production of Chianti Classico DOCG.

In addition to Sangiovese, there are international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The cultivation and oenological practices implemented are in the vanguard but in harmony with traditional cellar practices. Following the ground with a glance, you can see the other buildings and the old cellars, entirely excavated inside the hill and arranged in parallel rows. Here the wine, in silent darkness, softens in the large barrels and small oak barriques.

Recently the vineyards have been renewed according to new quality criteria, with the use of of selected clones, density of plantation higher and with lower production for plant, prioritizing the quality of the result.

Alongside viticulture there is an agricultural activity focused mainly on olive growing; the valleys and flat stretches are instead cultivated with arable crops, on part of which irrigation coming from from the two large lakes they own. The villa, today the focal point of the entire village, completely dominates the area surrounding.
