Description
What kind of wine it is
This Fiano di Avellino by Villa Raiano is an authentic expression of the Fiano grape, with a bright straw-yellow colour. Its aromatic profile stands out for its intense notes of jasmine, golden apple and citrus fruits, enriched by delicate hints of sage and a pleasant smoky note. On the palate, it offers a broad, juicy and medium-bodied sip, supported by excellent balance. The tasting concludes with a vibrant savouriness and a long mineral persistence that define its elegant character.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Alimata district in the municipality of Montefredane, in the heart of Irpinia. The vineyard stretches across an east-facing hillside at an altitude of three hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The vines, trained on a vertical trellis with Guyot pruning, sink their roots into clay and marl soils, compact on the surface and characterised by a good presence of stones. This specific geological formation imparts an unmistakable territorial imprint to the grapes.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place during the first week of October. In the winery, vinification begins with gentle pressing of the whole bunches, followed by static decantation of the must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures on the fine lees for twelve months, a prolonged period that gives depth and breadth to the sip. A further year of ageing in the bottle defines its structural complexity before release.
History and Curiosities
Originating from the namesake district of Montefredane, in Irpinia, the Fiano di Avellino DOCG Alimata by Villa Raiano fully expresses the vocation of a clay and marl soil situated at 350 metres above sea level. Expertly matured for 12 months on fine lees and for an equal period in the bottle, this elegant wine develops an uncommon complexity. In the glass, it offers intense aromas of jasmine and golden apple, enriched by a vibrant juicy freshness and a persistent mineral streak that earned it the excellent score of 93/100 awarded by Vinous.
