Description
What kind of wine is it
Villa Raiano's Fiano di Avellino is a white wine from Campania that precisely expresses the character of the Fiano grape variety. It displays a bright straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The aromatic profile is austere and well-defined, led by notes of flint and white citrus fruits intertwined with hints of sage and mint. These are followed by nuances of white peach and subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is clean and vibrant, with a balanced structure that envelops the sip in a satisfying manner. The pronounced freshness and mineral component accompany the tasting towards a persistent and savoury finish, making it excellent with fish dishes and seafood fritters.
Where does it come from
It originates in the Fiano di Avellino area, among the hills of the municipalities of Candida, Montefredane, Lapio and San Michele di Serino. The vineyards, cultivated using the Guyot system, are situated at altitudes between 350 and 480 metres above sea level, ideal conditions for preserving the aromatic precision of the grapes. The soils have a complex matrix of calcareous clays, marls and silty-sandy components, enriched by significant layers of volcanic ash. This specific geology imparts a distinct mineral character and great savouriness to the harvested grapes.
How is it produced
The process begins between the end of September and the beginning of October with a careful manual harvest. The intact bunches are brought to the winery for gentle pressing, aimed at extracting only the free-run must. After static decantation, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, a technique essential for preserving the primary aromas. This is followed by four months of ageing on the fine lees, which gives depth and tactile complexity without altering the natural acidity. The production cycle concludes in February, resulting in a wine with interesting prospects for evolution and longevity.
