Description

What kind of wine it is

Vallepicciola Vigneto Lapina Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a red wine with a rich profile, made from Sangiovese grapes. This interpretation of Chianti Classico presents itself with a ruby red colour and violet highlights. On the nose, it offers a broad and defined bouquet, characterised by clear notes of plum, blackberry, vanilla and sweet spices. On the palate, the sip reveals a perfect harmony between fruit and acidity, supported by soft and velvety tannins that lead to a persistent finish, ideal when paired with succulent game ragù.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Pievasciata, in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, from a single vineyard located between 380 and 440 metres above sea level. The vines, cultivated organically and sustainably, grow on limestone and clay soils, rich in marl, galestro and alberese, ideal soils for enhancing a pronounced mineral component. The Vallepicciola estate was established from the restoration of an ancient convent and is distinguished by the meticulous care of the rows trained with spurred cordon and Guyot, capable of offering a faithful and defined expression of the territory.

How it is produced

Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest between the end of September and the beginning of October. Fermentation takes place in cement vats or steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about fifteen days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in barriques, tonneaux and large French oak barrels for a period ranging from twenty-four to thirty months. This slow passage in wood consolidates its structure and is completed with a further refinement of six to eight months before release.

History and Curiosities

Born from the restoration of an ancient convent in Pievasciata, the Vallepicciola estate embodies the genuine passion of the Bolfo family. In this evocative Sienese landscape stands the exclusive Lapina Vineyard, a true gem among the estate’s 110 hectares of vines. Each bottle, adorned with a label depicting the unique King Berardo, encapsulates the profound heritage and most prestigious soul of Chianti Classico, in the heart of Castelnuovo Berardenga.

In the late 1990s, the Bolfo family decided to breathe new life into the ruins of an old monastery located in the picturesque countryside of Pievasciata, a picturesque village in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga (Siena). And it is from the vineyards of this monastery, transformed with love and care into the prestigious 5-star Hotel Le Fontanelle, that the story of Vallepicciola begins.

In this 265-hectare property, where centuries-old woods intertwine with more than 4,000 olive trees, 107 hectares of excellent vines are skilfully cultivated, each with its own unique and precious history: Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.

Thanks to its robust structure, this pure Sangiovese beautifully enhances the intense flavours of Tuscan tradition. It pairs perfectly with the classic Florentine steak, succulent game ragùs and mature cheeses. To fully appreciate its velvety tannins, it is recommended to decant for an hour and serve at a temperature between 16 and 20°C.
