Description
What kind of wine it is
The Langhe Nebbiolo from Piedmont, with Denomination of Controlled Origin, crafted by G.D. Vajra, is a red wine that clearly expresses the purity of the Nebbiolo grape. On the nose, it reveals a vibrant bouquet with notes of raspberry, red cherry and plum, enhanced by subtle hints of rose and violet. On the palate, it is generous, enveloped by elegant and silky tannins that provide a pleasant dynamism. The fruity flavours intertwine with hints of graphite and orange zest, leading the sip towards a persistent and savoury finish, following maturation in steel and neutral oak barrels.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Piedmont, in the Barolo area, from young vines cultivated according to organic farming principles. The rows sink their roots into calcareous soils situated at an altitude between 280 and 550 metres. The excellent sun exposure and constant natural ventilation allow for ideal ripening of the grapes. The G.D. Vajra winery is actively committed to preserving local biodiversity, maintaining a healthy ecosystem between the vineyards and the surrounding woods.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous manual harvest at first light, a fundamental practice to preserve the aromatic freshness of the bunches. This is followed by single-parcel fermentation in vertical vats, combined with a long and gentle maceration designed to gently extract the wine's structure. After spontaneous malolactic fermentation, maturation takes place mainly in steel. A small portion, however, matures in neutral oak barrels, providing balance to the body without overpowering the expressiveness of the Nebbiolo. The production cycle concludes with bottling in the spring following the harvest.
History and Curiosities
Located in Vergne, at the highest point of the Barolo area, the G.D. Vajra estate has practised certified organic farming since 1971, carefully protecting biodiversity. This Langhe DOC is produced from young Nebbiolo vines, hand-harvested at dawn to preserve their pristine aromatic freshness. Under the guidance of the Vaira family, meticulous work in the cellar includes single-parcel fermentations and gentle, prolonged macerations, which allow the most vibrant, elegant and pure interpretation of the exceptional Piedmontese terroir to be expressed in the glass.
