Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Coste di Rose by Vajra is an organic red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes. A true expression of Barolo, it offers a bouquet characterised by notes of rose, morello cherry, liquorice and sweet spices. Maturation in Slavonian oak barrels gives the palate a deep structure, distinguished by silky tannins and a savoury, persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in the municipality of Barolo from the Coste di Rose vineyard, located on a steep slope. The rows of vines grow at around 310 metres above sea level on soils composed of Diano Sandstone and ancient sands. This soil composition shapes the Nebbiolo, ensuring a clear aromatic precision and a profound balance between the fruit's juiciness and the tannic component.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-harvested in October, destemmed and vinified in custom-made vats. Fermentation lasts fifty-five days and includes a submerged cap phase. The following spring, spontaneous malolactic fermentation begins, leading to a long ageing period in Slavonian oak barrels that defines the wine's character until bottling.

History and Curiosities

Located in the municipality of Barolo, this cru comes to life on a steep slope characterised by soils of Diano Sandstone. These ancient sands shape the wine’s identity, the result of the dedication of the Vajra family who, since 1972, have cultivated their vineyards under strict organic practices. The meticulous vinification, with a 55-day maceration under a submerged cap, and the slow ageing in Slavonian oak barrels enhance the natural elegance of Nebbiolo, offering a sublime expression of the Piedmontese territory.
