Description
What kind of wine it is
Travaglini Gattinara is a still red wine that encapsulates the authentic expression of Nebbiolo. To the eye, it displays a clear garnet red colour, heralding a bouquet where small red fruits, raspberry and currant stand out, accompanied by delicate hints of anise and cypress. The tasting experience is led by a pronounced minerality that imparts an intriguing freshness and balances the solid structure. The palate is savoury and smooth, with gentle tannins well integrated into the acidic framework. This character makes it ideal for enhancing dishes with intense flavours, pairing perfectly with braised meats, game, and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes originate from the Gattinara area, in the province of Vercelli. The vineyards thrive at an altitude between 320 and 420 metres, benefiting from optimal exposure to the south and south-west. The distinctive feature of the area is the rocky soil, rich in iron minerals that give the land its typical reddish hue, imparting unmistakable ferrous notes to the glass. The foothill climate offers a valuable temperature range for the quality of the grapes and ensures excellent vineyard ventilation, preserving perfect health throughout the entire growing cycle.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place in the first ten days of October, with careful selection of the bunches. Fermentation in stainless steel lasts for about fifteen days at a controlled temperature, a process designed to maintain the fruit's aromatic precision. This is followed by a meticulous total ageing of four years, during which the wine rests for a long time in Slavonian oak barrels and, to a lesser extent, in smaller wooden casks. The process concludes with a bottle maturation of three months, resulting in a balanced and approachable red, capable of ensuring solid and fascinating longevity over time.
