Description
What type of wine it is
Roen by Cantina Tramin is a sweet white wine with Alto Adige Protected Designation of Origin status, made from Gewürztraminer grapes dried on the vine to encourage the development of noble rot. This process gives it an intense golden-yellow colour and a deep bouquet, in which notes of honey, dried apricot and exotic fruit blend with aromas of rose and vanilla. On the palate, it expresses a velvety sweetness, balanced by a vibrant freshness that makes the sip agile. The finish is long and enriched by spicy accents of ginger, defining an elegant and vital passito.
Where it comes from
The vineyards grow on the gravelly and calcareous soils of Sella, a hamlet of Tramin (Termeno) located at the foot of Mount Roen. The vines are found between three hundred and five hundred metres above sea level, on a substrate of clay and porphyry that enhances the aromatic complexity. The climate of the area is characterised by warm Mediterranean days mitigated by nights cooled by mountain winds. These marked temperature fluctuations ensure a slow ripening of the clusters and create the ideal environment for the development of Botrytis cinerea, a fundamental element for the identity of this wine.
How it is produced
Production begins with a manual late harvest, carried out between late November and early December to harvest the dried grapes. After careful maceration, a soft pressing gently extracts the must. Fermentation and maturation take place in small French oak barrels for about twelve months, enriching the structure of the passito. A period of bottle ageing concludes the process, allowing the wine to harmoniously integrate its sugar richness with the natural acidity.
History and interesting facts
The name Roen pays homage to the mountain that protects the Sella vineyards, tended by the members of the historic Cantina Tramin, founded in 1898. This sublime wine is capable of achieving excellence, as evidenced by the 93 James Suckling points awarded to the 2024 vintage.
