Description

What type of wine it is

Cantina Tramin's Lagrein Rosé is a still rosé wine with the Alto Adige DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) status, an authentic expression of the Lagrein grape variety. It presents with a pale pink colour with ruby highlights and a clean bouquet of wild strawberry, redcurrant and violet. Vinification in steel without malolactic fermentation preserves its pronounced acidity and smooth drinkability. On the palate, it is dry and vibrant, evolving towards a savoury and persistent finish with a slight final spiciness.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the hillside vineyards of Termeno, in Alto Adige, situated at an altitude between 250 and 400 metres. Here, the vines take root in a limestone and clay matrix, enriched with gravel and sand, which gives the wine a precise gustatory linearity. The microclimate is marked by strong temperature shifts, with hot days mitigated by cool nocturnal alpine winds. This environmental balance is essential to preserve the fruit's vigour and guarantee excellent aromatic precision in the bunch.

How it is produced

Harvesting takes place manually using small containers to preserve the integrity of the bunches. After destemming, the grapes undergo a brief overnight maceration in contact with the skins. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, avoiding malolactic fermentation to safeguard the natural freshness of the grape variety. Ageing in steel keeps this stylistic purity intact, resulting in a straightforward, dynamic wine of great immediacy.

History and Heritage

Founded in 1898 in Termeno, Cantina Tramin represents the excellence of Trentino-Alto Adige, bringing together 160 winegrowing families. Under the guidance of oenologist Willi Stürz, the cooperative enhances native grape varieties to express the authentic soul of the Alpine landscape. The commitment to the environment translates into a rigorous agronomic approach that has allowed for a 90% reduction in the use of herbicides across the 270 hectares under cultivation. This historic winery produces elegant wines that are faithful to tradition, expressing the essence of the Alpine landscape.

In a time of hardship for Alto Adige’s wine producers, Christian Schrott, parish priest of Tramin and later Member of the Austrian Parliament, founded our cooperative in 1898 in order to protect the livelihood and future of the wine producers from this mountain area. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has become one of Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives and an example recognized all over the world.

Today, we are 160 families tending approximately 270 hectares of vineyards. We pride ourselves on the fact that each bottle is the quintessence of our philosophy of life and work: accuracy, commitment, trust and creativity.
