Description
What kind of wine it is
Torre del Falco Nero di Troia is an organic red wine produced in Apulia by Torrevento, an authentic expression of the Nero di Troia grape variety. To the eye, it displays an intense ruby red colour enriched with vibrant violet highlights. The aromatic profile reveals fragrant notes of raspberry, blueberry and violet, accompanied by Mediterranean herbs, spices and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it offers a robust and structured body, balanced by harmonious acidity and a pleasant freshness. The young and smooth tannins intertwine with hints of black pepper, leading to a clean finish. Its natural softness makes it ideal for pairing with roast red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red originates from the areas of Corato, Castel del Monte and Andria. The organically managed vineyards are located on the slopes of the Alta Murgia, at an altitude between 350 and 450 metres, a factor that ensures balanced ripening of the grapes. The vines take root in calcareous-clay soils of medium texture, rich in stones and rocks, essential elements for giving the wine a solid taste structure. The espalier training system with spurred cordon allows for yield management and reflects the expression of the territory.
How it is produced
The Nero di Troia grape harvest generally takes place in the last ten days of October. In the winery, the vinification process involves alcoholic fermentation combined with a long maceration on the skins, essential for extracting the colour intensity and tannic structure typical of the variety. This is followed by ageing in stainless steel for about ten months. This vinification technique is designed to preserve the original spicy integrity and aromatic freshness of the fruit, resulting in a robust and complex wine, characterised by a persistent and very clean finish.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1989 within an ancient Benedictine monastery, the Torrevento winery preserves its secrets in the bare rock of the Alta Murgia. From this unspoilt land comes the Nero di Troia 2021, an authentic expression of the native grape variety, produced through rigorous organic farming. This deep respect for nature yields a prestigious red wine, celebrated by wine critics with the 3 Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, the 3 Veronelli Stars, and the excellent scores from Luca Maroni.

Vineyards are only grown with autochthonous vines, following the dictates of sustainable agriculture. At the winery, the production method follows a non-excessively long maceration time and a non-excessive use of wood. Francesco Liantonio has been at the helm; there have been many interventions: the expansion of the vineyard area, investments in technology and innovation and the start of the process for quality certification. It has 500 hectares of vineyards and 2,600,000 bottles, yet it can amaze and innovate, producing wines combining large numbers and quality. Read more
