Description
What kind of wine it is
Dulcis in Fundo Moscato di Trani by Torrevento is a naturally sweet white wine that embodies the essence of Moscato Bianco, locally known as Moscato Reale. Visually, it displays a straw yellow colour enhanced by brilliant golden highlights. On the palate, it is smooth and rich, maintaining an impeccable balance between elegant sweetness and vibrant freshness. The taste, initially dry, opens up to a weave of exotic fruit, offering a long and persistent finish. Perfect as a dessert wine, it pairs beautifully with almond-based pastries and is surprisingly good with a fresh goat’s cheese.
Where it comes from
The grapes originate in Puglia, at an altitude of around three hundred metres, within the Alta Murgia National Park. The medium-textured alluvial soil supports vines trained on a vertical trellis with spur pruning, a system that optimises canopy management. This hilly setting is characterised by significant temperature variations, which are essential for preserving the primary aromas of the grape. Torrevento is committed to promoting native grape varieties, maintaining low yields to ensure each bunch expresses maximum aromatic concentration and refined taste elegance.
How it is produced
Production begins with a light withering on the vine, a crucial technique for naturally concentrating sugars and aromas. After manual harvesting at the end of September, the grapes undergo gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and is promptly halted to preserve the natural sweetness of the must. The wine then undergoes eight months of maturation in stainless steel, a technical choice aimed at preserving the fragrance of candied apricot, honey and almond notes. A further period of rest allows the wine to achieve a harmonious balance, enhancing its varietal purity.
History and Curiosities
Born in the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park, within an ancient Benedictine monastery, Dulcis in Fundo expresses Torrevento's dedication to native Apulian grape varieties. The winery, active since 1989 with a rigorous approach to sustainability, enhances the authenticity of Moscato di Trani DOC through carefully managed on-the-vine drying. The grapes are harvested at the end of September to concentrate their aromas and natural sweetness, resulting in an enveloping wine that masterfully combines rural history, winemaking dedication, and the highest quality.

Vineyards are only grown with autochthonous vines, following the dictates of sustainable agriculture. At the winery, the production method follows a non-excessively long maceration time and a non-excessive use of wood. Francesco Liantonio has been at the helm; there have been many interventions: the expansion of the vineyard area, investments in technology and innovation and the start of the process for quality certification. It has 500 hectares of vineyards and 2,600,000 bottles, yet it can amaze and innovate, producing wines combining large numbers and quality. Read more
