Description
What kind of wine it is
Vigna Pedale Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva is a red wine from Apulia produced by Torrevento, which faithfully interprets the characteristics of Nero di Troia. The wine displays an intense ruby red colour with deep garnet highlights. On the nose, it releases enveloping aromas of ripe wild red berries, enriched by pronounced notes of myrtle, liquorice, violet and cocoa. The palate reveals a full and robust body, characterised by smooth tannins that support a harmonious structure, finishing with a persistent and pleasantly spicy aftertaste.
Where it comes from
This red originates from the estates of Corato, in the province of Bari, at the foot of the historic castle from which the renowned Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva takes its name. The vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture at an altitude between four hundred and five hundred metres above sea level. The vines grow on a medium-textured calcareous clay soil, trained on a vertical trellis with spur pruning. This fortunate combination of altitude and soil promotes excellent concentration and structure.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between the end of October and the beginning of November, bringing to the winery bunches that have reached perfect ripeness. Vinification begins with a long maceration fermentation on the skins, a fundamental process to fully extract colour and structural components. Subsequently, the wine matures for eight months in stainless steel, then completes its development by resting for twelve to fourteen months in large oak barrels. This careful process allows the tannic texture to be harmoniously integrated with the spicy notes, before the final ageing in glass.
History and Curiosities
Born at the foot of Castel del Monte, Vigna Pedale by Torrevento is an Apulian excellence that enhances the native grape variety Nero di Troia vinified in purity. This sustainable red fully reflects the richness of the calcareous-clay soil and the altitude of the Corato vineyards. The meticulous winemaking process, which involves a long maceration and ageing between steel and large barrels, gives the wine an elegant and well-structured profile. Awarded the Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso and 94 points by James Suckling, this Riserva DOCG offers a unique experience.

Vineyards are only grown with autochthonous vines, following the dictates of sustainable agriculture. At the winery, the production method follows a non-excessively long maceration time and a non-excessive use of wood. Francesco Liantonio has been at the helm; there have been many interventions: the expansion of the vineyard area, investments in technology and innovation and the start of the process for quality certification. It has 500 hectares of vineyards and 2,600,000 bottles, yet it can amaze and innovate, producing wines combining large numbers and quality. Read more
