Description

What kind of wine it is

Turmhof Pinot Grigio by Tiefenbrunner is a white wine from Alto Adige that combines a fresh profile with deep structure. Visually, it appears straw yellow with sandy hues. On the nose, fresh floral notes and aromatic herbs stand out, blending with hints of ripe fruit such as pear, peach and melon. On the palate, this Pinot Grigio reveals a full and rounded body, distinguished by a creamy and velvety texture that leads the tasting towards a persistent and elegant finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from plots located south of Magrè and from the hillside vineyards of Cortaccia in Alto Adige. The vines benefit from a south and south-east exposure, between 210 and 350 metres above sea level, ensuring optimal ripening. In Cortaccia, the soil is rich in calcareous gravel and moraine sediments, while in Magrè sandy alluvial soils prevail. This variety of terroir gives the wine remarkable breadth of flavour, supported by Guyot training which maintains balanced yields and a perfect balance between natural acidity and residual sugars.

How it is produced

Vinification involves fermentation and ten months of ageing divided into two phases. Part of the must matures in large wooden barrels with regular bâtonnage, while the rest undergoes malolactic fermentation in smaller barrels. Once the blend is created, the wine rests for two months in concrete vats, completing the cycle with a final five months of ageing. This precise process in the cellar gives a rounded body and fixes the elegant softness of the sip.

History and Curiosities

The renowned Pinot Grigio Turmhof embodies the excellence of the Tiefenbrunner winery, established in 1848. Under the guidance of oenologist Stephan Rohregger, this prestigious 2022 vintage enhances the authentic terroir of the Alto Adige DOC. The grapes flourish between 210 and 350 metres above sea level, drawing nourishment from the gravelly-limestone soils of Cortaccia and the alluvial and sandy soils of Magrè. This meticulous care gives rise to an extraordinary white wine, awarded 93 points by James Suckling, capable of bringing a centuries-old tradition of elegance and dedication to the glass.
