Description

What type of wine it is

Merus Chardonnay is a still white wine produced by Tiefenbrunner in the South Tyrol region. Showcasing the Chardonnay to its full potential, it stands out for its fresh profile and defined structure. The time spent in the cellar involves ageing on fine lees, which gives the glass an enveloping texture. On the palate, a slight savouriness is appreciated, capable of accompanying the sip towards a persistent and balanced finish.

Where it comes from

The wine originates between the municipalities of Cortaccia and Magrè, from vineyards located between 210 and 400 metres above sea level. In Cortaccia, the soils are characterised by limestone gravel of morainic origin, while in Magrè, sandy alluvial soils prevail. The south and south-east exposures ensure optimal ripening of the grapes. These environmental conditions translate into a clear varietal expression, capable of perfectly balancing fullness and gustatory tension.

How it is produced

Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for ten days in concrete vats, followed by a four-month period resting on the lees. Characterised by a bright light yellow colour with greenish highlights, it reveals typical Chardonnay aromas with notes of wildflowers and hints of exotic fruit. On the palate, it is savoury and well-structured, proving ideal when paired with fish dishes, light starters, and South Tyrolean specialties.

History and interesting facts

The result of the Tiefenbrunner family's passion for viticulture, now in its fifth generation. Notable among the interesting facts related to this wine are the prestigious accolades received from industry guides and critics, such as Berebene, Wine Spectator, James Suckling and Vinous.
