Description
What kind of wine it is
Etna Rosso from Tenuta delle Terre Nere is an organic wine that expresses the authentic character of the volcano. Composed of a carefully selected blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, it stands out in the glass for its bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals a clear aromatic profile in which ripe fruit and sweet spices stand out. On the palate, it is balanced, with excellent intensity and deep freshness, accompanied by great finesse. Its origin from the Etna region highlights the structural quality of this red wine with remarkable ageing potential.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the northern slope of Mount Etna, in the municipalities of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards stretch between 600 and 900 metres above sea level on deep volcanic soil. This terroir, characterised by renowned crus such as Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo, gives the harvest a precise aromatic definition. The vines are managed with various training systems, including the traditional bush vine. The northern exposure and the harsh high-altitude climate define the dynamic style of this wine.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between the first and second decade of October. In the cellar, temperature-controlled fermentation occurs between 25 and 28 degrees, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation which harmonises the flavour profile. The wine then matures for an extended period in French oak barrels, using a small percentage of new wood to enrich the tannic structure in a balanced way. The production process at Tenuta delle Terre Nere concludes with a brief refinement in stainless steel, which allows the vibrancy of the sip to be preserved intact.
History and Curiosities
The Etna Rosso DOC 2024 from Tenuta delle Terre Nere celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the winery, encapsulating the vibrant soul of the northern slope of Etna. Produced on volcanic soils situated between 600 and 900 metres above sea level, this excellent organic wine is born from the union of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio from prestigious crus.
