Description

What kind of wine it is

Ciuri from Terrazze dell’Etna is a refined organic white from the Terre Siciliane, produced through careful white vinification of Nerello Mascalese grapes. This elegant Blanc de Noir style stands out for its vibrant, medium-to-full-bodied sensory profile, supported by a refreshing acidity. On the nose, it opens with an enveloping and fragrant bouquet of tropical fruit, enhanced by delicate nuances of rosemary. The palate reveals a pronounced savouriness, leading the tasting towards a persistent and very clean mineral finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Sicily, specifically in the renowned locality of Bocca d’Orzo in the municipality of Randazzo. The vines grow at high altitude on deep volcanic-lava soils, trained using a mixed head-trained (alberello) and trellis system that ensures balanced yields. The unique cool and airy microclimate, influenced by sea breezes and a marked temperature range between day and night, promotes optimal grape ripening. These unique territorial elements translate in the glass into a taut and saline palate, enriching the wine's profile with an evident mineral drive and a distinct aromatic complexity.

How it is produced

The Nerello Mascalese harvest takes place carefully during the last ten days of September. In the cellar, a rigorous white vinification process is carried out, supported by cold cryomaceration designed to extract the maximum aromatic potential while preserving the pale colour and the finesse of the must. The subsequent fermentation and ageing in stainless steel enhances the natural freshness and vibrancy of the fruit. The process concludes with an additional period of bottle ageing, an essential step to harmonise the savoury component and integrate the complex mineral texture.

History and interesting facts

The name “Ciuri” translates as “flowers”, a reference to the vibrancy of this wine. The most fascinating feature of Ciuri 2025 is its nature as a Blanc de Noir: it is, in fact, created from an experimental white vinification of red Nerello Mascalese grapes. This unusual technique, combined with the unique characteristics of high-altitude volcanic soils, makes the wine a truly singular expression.

The amphitheatre of terraces gathers, as if in an embrace, Etna's indigenous grape varieties: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante, while also encircling other international varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot. Nerello Mascalese is the company's main grape variety, a red thread that binds the entire production.

Ancient head-trained vines over 60 years old give life to Cirneco: Etna Rosso, whose name is a tribute to the volcano's native hunting dog, which possesses the wine's equal characteristics in terms of elegance and strength.

The younger vines give birth to Carusu, a young Etna Doc that retraces the history of Etna reds in a modern key, Rosato Etna Doc with its pinky hues, and Ciuri, an elegant and unique wine, originated from the white vinification of Nerello Mascalese.

From the Carricante vineyards comes Cinniri, a Bianco Etna DOC that, as the name indicates, brings the typical flavours of the volcano back into the glass.

The international grape varieties give rise to four Metodo Classico sparkling wines (two that remain 36 months on the lees and two that remain 50 months) and two IGT Sicilia red wines.
