Description
What kind of wine is it
Terlan Siebeneich Merlot Riserva is a still red wine produced by Cantina Terlano using exclusively Merlot grapes. This expression from Alto Adige reveals a deep ruby red colour that heralds a multi-faceted aromatic profile, characterised by fruity notes of blackberry and cranberry, combined with aromas of mint and eucalyptus. A measured touch of oak and a hint of black pepper enrich a profound sip, ensuring the palate experiences a stable tannic structure and an extremely persistent finish, ideal for accompanying robust meat dishes and mature cheeses.
Where does it come from
This wine originates from a single vineyard located in Terlano, in the heart of Alto Adige. The sandy and stony soils, known for their drainage capabilities, combine with an altitude between two hundred and fifty and three hundred metres. The optimal south and south-west exposure promotes regular ripening of the grapes, ensuring remarkable fruit definition. In this favourable microclimate, the Merlot grape develops great concentration, guaranteeing a sip of absolute clarity and tension, where intensity is expressed while maintaining a compact structure.
How is it produced
Production begins with manual harvesting and a rigorous selection of the grape bunches. After destemming, a temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by gentle movement of the must. The subsequent malolactic fermentation stabilises the wine, preparing it for twelve months of ageing, partly in large wooden barrels and partly in smaller barrels, one third of which are new. Finally, the wine undergoes a careful blend and rests for a further three months, clearly preserving the varietal expression.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano produces the esteemed Siebeneich Merlot Riserva, the result of a single vineyard located on sandy and stony soils. Crafted under the guidance of oenologist Rudi Kofler, this red wine is born from hand harvesting and a skilful 12-month maturation in large barrels and barriques. This process gives the wine a complex structure and balanced tannins, ensuring a persistent finish. An elegant wine that enhances rich dishes and mature cheeses, offering a deep and enveloping tasting experience in every glass.
