Description
What kind of wine it is
Lagrein Porphyr from Cantina Terlano is a still red wine made from Lagrein grapes, elegantly expressing the character of Alto Adige. On the nose, it reveals an intense bouquet, dominated by clear notes of liquorice, coffee, cloves, black tea and vanilla, well balanced by hints of morello cherry and bilberry. On the palate, it opens up to reveal a harmonious and compact flavour profile, where fruit and spices naturally blend with a pleasant hint of dark chocolate. The structure on the palate is solid, enhanced by very refined tannins that give great persistence to the sip.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of Alto Adige, crafted with the expertise of Cantina Terlano. The vineyards are situated at an altitude between 250 and 270 metres above sea level and benefit from excellent south-west exposure: ideal climatic conditions to encourage intensity and full ripening of the fruit. The strict yield per hectare is a deliberate agronomic choice, aimed at enhancing aromatic concentration and the solidity of the wine. These measures allow the authentic identity of the region to be expressed, resulting in a red wine with a clear and consistent character.
How it is produced
The winemaking process begins with a careful manual harvest, necessary to select only the best bunches. After destemming, vinification continues with a slow fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation. Maturation takes place over eighteen months in oak barrels, one third of which are new, enriching the wine's tannic texture. Finally, the creation of the final blend, carried out three months before bottling, consolidates a compact profile where the fruity and spicy components achieve a perfect and lasting balance.
History and Curiosities
