Description
What kind of wine it is
Punta Aquila by Tenute Rubino is a still red wine from Salento, made exclusively from Primitivo grapes. Its aromatic profile stands out for its ethereal and fragrant notes, creating a deep bouquet with hints of cherries in spirit, blackberry jam, blueberries and currants. The olfactory picture is enriched with spicy and earthy nuances, with hints of rhubarb, humus, tobacco, ginger, black pepper and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it reveals itself as bold and dynamic, offering a powerful structure supported by vibrant freshness and exuberant tannins, with a finish characterised by a persistent mineral note.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Brindisi area in Apulia, specifically from the Punta Aquila zone. The vineyards, located one hundred metres above sea level, are rooted in medium-textured soil, which is fundamental in giving the wine its typical deep ruby colour with garnet reflections. The vines are cultivated using the spurred cordon training system. Careful agronomic management allows for a controlled yield, ensuring rich and concentrated grapes that define the breadth and enveloping character of this wine.
How it is produced
Production begins in the first days of September with a rigorous manual harvest. The bunches are taken to the winery, where fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about ten days. This is followed by a prolonged maceration on the skins, essential for optimal extraction of colour and aromatic components, completed by malolactic fermentation. The wine matures for five months in steel and continues ageing in French oak truncated-cone barrels, then rests further in the bottle before being released for sale.
History and Curiosities
The Primitivo Punta Aquila from Tenute Rubino expresses the authentic bond of a family with the generous land of Salento. Produced in the Brindisi area from vineyards cultivated using the spur-pruned cordon method, this red wine is born from a rigorous manual harvest carried out at the beginning of September. Combining knowledge and passion since 2000, oenologist Luca Petrelli shapes a vintage with a vibrant character, celebrated by the prestigious Bibenda, Veronelli and AIS awards, which highlight this label’s ability to convey the true essence of Apulian winemaking.

Both the traditions of Salento and a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit have been passed down from Tommaso to his son, Luigi, who has since taken over with the support of his wife, Romina. Luigi has undertaken this entrepreneurial legacy, pouring all of his passion into the family’s winery and making it a global ambassador of Apulian viticulture.
After all, winemaking is an ancient art here in Jaddico: over the years, archaeologists have brought to light a Roman manor house filled with kilns, where Visellio—the owner of the estate—fired the amphorae used to export his wine to the four corners of the Roman Empire. At the time, this land was home to extensive vineyards and served as an important manufacturing center for wine containers.
