Description
What kind of wine it is
Ottavianello Lamo is a red wine from Apulia produced by Tenute Rubino. An authentic expression of the Ostuni area, it is made from Ottavianello grapes, a variety that gives the glass a brilliant ruby hue. The bouquet weaves together notes of rose, blackberry and cherry with delicate hints of liquorice and nutmeg. On the palate, it stands out for its fresh acidity, well balanced by soft, fine tannins, ensuring immediate enjoyment and a clean, persistent finish. If allowed to rest briefly before serving, it pairs beautifully with roast pork, chickpea hummus with taralli, or traditional dishes such as cavatelli with rocket and olives.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Ostuni area in Apulia, from vineyards situated at around two hundred metres above sea level. The vines are trained using the spur-pruned cordon method on clay soil rich in stones, a key feature in defining the wine’s clarity and precision on the palate. Tenute Rubino employs organic and sustainable practices, harvesting towards the end of September to preserve the integrity and aromatic vibrancy of the grapes. This careful agronomic management ensures the wine evolves excellently over time, with an estimated longevity of between five and ten years.
How it is produced
Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The process involves a seven-day maceration, ideal for delicately extracting colour and aromatic precursors from the skins. This is followed by complete malolactic fermentation, a crucial step to impart greater softness and balance to the structure. The production process concludes with maturation in steel for about six months, followed by a further period of rest, a deliberate choice to preserve all the freshness and immediacy of the fruit.
History and Curiosities
The name Lamo celebrates the deep connection between Virgil and Brindisi, evoking the figure of the leader mentioned in the Aeneid. This Ostuni DOC is born from the vision of Tenute Rubino, a family-run winery dedicated to rediscovering the excellence of Apulian viticulture. Thanks to a strictly organic and sustainable approach, the company enhances pure Ottavianello grapes, creating a red wine with vibrant freshness and delicate tannins. An oenological work curated by Luca Petrelli, capable of blending the charm of classical history with a profound respect for the land.

Both the traditions of Salento and a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit have been passed down from Tommaso to his son, Luigi, who has since taken over with the support of his wife, Romina. Luigi has undertaken this entrepreneurial legacy, pouring all of his passion into the family’s winery and making it a global ambassador of Apulian viticulture.
After all, winemaking is an ancient art here in Jaddico: over the years, archaeologists have brought to light a Roman manor house filled with kilns, where Visellio—the owner of the estate—fired the amphorae used to export his wine to the four corners of the Roman Empire. At the time, this land was home to extensive vineyards and served as an important manufacturing center for wine containers.
