Description

What kind of wine it is

The Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva Perda Rubia from Tenute Perda Rubia expresses the authentic essence of Cannonau. To the eye, it displays a delicate ruby red colour, while on the nose it reveals intense aromas of floral and spicy notes. On the palate, it is dry and rounded, characterised by good persistence. To fully appreciate its structure, it is recommended to decant it for about an hour and serve it between sixteen and eighteen degrees, paired with pork dishes and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva originates in the province of Nuoro, a region where the granitic soils give the vineyards a distinctive geological character. Tenute Perda Rubia, a historic family-run winery, has been cultivating its own vineyards for decades following the principles of organic farming. Using exclusively estate-grown grapes, the winery ensures a strong territorial identity, offering a clear and sincere expression of the Sardinian terroir.

How it is produced

The production process involves using only the free-run must, left to ferment in contact with the skins for a limited period. This technique allows for measured extraction, ensuring optimal balance. The wine then matures in large oak barrels, where it develops its sensory profile. A long period of bottle ageing completes the process, harmonising the aromatic profiles and giving the wine an interesting capacity to evolve over time.

History and Curiosities

Founded in Sardinia in 1949, the family-run Tenute Perda Rubia company ties its identity to Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Riserva. Since 1980, it has exclusively vinified its own organically grown grapes, cultivated on granitic soils. The use of free-run must and ageing in large oak barrels shape its authentic character. The 2022 vintage was awarded the 5 Grappoli Bibenda and the Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, testifying to its excellence and deep connection with the land.

Tenute Perdarubia (Perdarubia Wine Estates) was founded in 1949 by Mario Mereu, who in that year inaugurated his own winery, the first to bottle in the province of Nuoro. Ever since then, everything was focused on Cannonau, from which Perda Rubia wine is created. In just a few years, the winery contributed in spreading and making this grape variety known internationally. The founder’s work was continued by Renato Mereu, who planted their first own vineyards in 1971. Since the early 1980s the company has been processing only its own grapes. In 2014, the winery passed to the third generation, and has embarked on a major renovation and revitalization. Read more
