Description

What kind of wine it is

Rosso di Ludovico Riserva, produced by Tenute Orestiadi, is a still vegan wine originating from Sicily. It presents itself as an enveloping blend of Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon, characterised by a complex structure and a powerful sip. On the palate, it expresses soft and finely balanced tannins, revealing a broad and deep texture. The colour is an intense ruby red with vibrant purple highlights. This full-bodied red is ideal for accompanying grilled red meats and braised game. Its structure magnificently enhances long-aged cheeses, pairing perfectly with rich first courses and roasts.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Gibellina, in the Belìce Valley, the heart of wine production in the inland area of Trapani. The vineyards reach 500 metres above sea level, benefiting from excellent sun exposure and hot summers that favour optimal ripening of the bunches and the development of intense aromas. The terroir is distinguished by the so-called black soils, clay-limestone soils rich in silt. These compact soils, naturally resistant to drought, allow the vines to produce grapes of extraordinary concentration, transferring to the wine all the authentic energy of the Sicilian landscape.

How it is produced

Production begins in September with the manual harvesting of the grapes. The first stage of maturation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about four to six months, in order to preserve the fragrance of the fruit. Subsequently, the wine rests in French oak barrels for sixteen to eighteen months, acquiring structure, elegance and complexity. The process concludes with about twelve months of bottle ageing. The result is an aromatic bouquet rich in notes of plum, mulberry, black cherry and blueberry, which blend with elegant spicy nuances of liquorice, tobacco, pepper and cocoa.

History and Curiosities

Born in the heart of the Valle del Belìce, in Gibellina, Il Rosso di Ludovico Riserva embodies the most authentic essence of Tenute Orestiadi. Since its founding in 2008, the winery has skilfully intertwined art, ancient myths and intoxicating Mediterranean aromas under the guidance of oenologist Giuseppe Clementi. This Sicilian excellence expresses a majestic character, consecrated by numerous international awards, including 95 points from Luca Maroni and the prestigious medals from Decanter and Mundus Vini.

Tenute Orestiadi has an ancient name that evokes distant myths and legends which, precisely in the lands of the Belìce Valley, found life thanks to Aeschylus, who two thousand five hundred years ago wrote and staged the myth of Orestes and the Orestiadi. This is where the story of the Tenute Orestiadi starts, founded in 2008 in the heart of the Belìce Valley, in Gibellina, Sicily, where Mediterranean scents and colors intertwine with myth and art. By transforming the arduous ascent after a historically and economically complex moment, the 1968 earthquake, into energy, the whole has become a cultural and dialogue center for the Mediterranean area.
