Description
What kind of wine it is
Primitivo Gioia del Colle Sellato by Tenuta Viglione is an organic red wine made from Primitivo grapes. On the nose, it reveals an intense aromatic profile, characterised by notes of cherry, plum and dried figs, interwoven with hints of carob, tobacco leaf and spicy nuances of nutmeg and cloves. On the palate, it is dry and velvety, with a balanced body and a well-integrated freshness that accompanies a pleasantly savoury and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from Santeramo in Colle, in the heart of the Gioia del Colle area in Apulia. The vineyards of Tenuta Viglione are located at an altitude of 450 metres with a south-west exposure, a position that ensures regular ripening. The stony soil with a limestone base gives the wine structure and a distinctly savoury finish. The estate cultivates the grapes following a strictly organic and sustainable approach, in full respect of the environment and the natural cycle of the vine.
How it is produced
The grapes, grown using the spur-pruned cordon method, are harvested in the first ten days of September. Fermentation and vinification take place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromatic clarity of the grape variety. Ageing involves a period of 12 months in large barrels for part of the wine, creating the right balance between smoothness and liveliness. It is recommended to let it breathe before serving, paired with red meats, pork or mature cheeses.
