Description
What kind of wine it is
Nativae by Tenuta Ulisse is an enveloping still red wine from Abruzzo with controlled designation of origin, expressing the most authentic character of the Montepulciano grape. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red colour, enhanced by bright garnet highlights. The aromatic profile is intense and persistent, characterised by notes of cherry, blueberry and morello cherry intertwined with hints of ripe plum, liquorice and delicate mineral nuances of ash. Born from spontaneous fermentation and aged in steel, on the palate it offers a structured and satisfying sip, revealing an excellent balance between acidity, tannic texture and savouriness, finishing with a long and clean finish dominated by clear fruity returns.
Where it comes from
The grapes destined for this Montepulciano d’Abruzzo are grown in Crecchio, in the heart of the Teatine hills. This area, nestled between the mountains and the Adriatic coast, enjoys an ideal microclimate that gives the grapes structure and elegance. The raw material comes from a forty-year-old vineyard, managed according to strict eco-sustainability principles and without any synthetic treatments. Careful selection during harvest enhances the pure identity of this land, resulting in a glass deeply connected to its place of origin.
How it is produced
The whole bunches are treated in a cooling tunnel for skin cryomaceration aimed at maximising aromatic extraction. This is followed by four months of maceration on the skins and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. Maturation continues in steel tanks, completed by three months of ageing. The decision to avoid filtration and clarification preserves the complete structural integrity of the wine, maintaining a lively, expressive texture that remains true to the raw material.
History and Curiosities
Born in Crecchio from the vision of Antonio Ulisse, Nativae is a fascinating tribute to the historic Abruzzese grape varieties. It comes from forty-year-old vineyards cultivated in an eco-sustainable way to enhance the authentic expression of the land. The use of the estate's tunnel allows the preservation of primary aromas through meticulous skin cryomaceration, while spontaneous fermentation imparts vitality to the sip. Awarded 87 points by James Suckling, this fine unfiltered red encapsulates the true artisanal soul of Tenuta Ulisse.
