Description
What kind of wine it is
Tenuta Ulisse Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a still red wine that faithfully expresses the character of the Montepulciano grape variety. In the glass, it displays an intense ruby colour, enriched by bright violet highlights. The aromatic profile offers pleasant and persistent notes of red fruits, with clear hints of black cherry and blackberry standing out. On the palate, it reveals a full and rounded structure, supported by a good body that leads to a long finish, characterised by sweet and velvety tannins. It is an ideal choice to accompany roasts, game and mature cheeses, and also shows excellent affinity with beef tartare.
Where it comes from
This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo originates from the renowned hills of the province of Chieti, in the areas of Crecchio and Lanciano. The vineyards take root in clay and limestone soils, a geological composition essential for giving the wine its elegant smoothness and preserving the clarity of the fruit. The Montepulciano grape finds in this microclimate the ideal conditions to develop its full expressive power. The Tenuta Ulisse winery enhances the potential of this area through spur-pruned cordon training and carefully managed yields, ensuring an authentic and territorial expression of this famous Abruzzo denomination.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a late manual harvest, carried out in the first days of November to ensure full phenolic ripeness of the grapes. In the winery, after crushing and destemming, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, accompanied by a skin maceration of fifteen to twenty days, necessary for optimal extraction of colour and aromatic components. Subsequently, the wine matures for four months in steel tanks, a deliberate choice to preserve the freshness and vibrant fragrance of the fruit, finally completing its evolution with a period of rest in glass.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 2006, Tenuta Ulisse is a family-run estate managing 70 hectares between Crecchio and Lanciano, under the guidance of oenologist Antonio Ulisse. The winery's aim is to innovate viticulture by combining a love for historic grape varieties with constant experimentation. From this vision comes an exceptional Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC, an undisputed symbol of the region's Protected Designation of Origin. Internationally acclaimed, this wine stands out for its extraordinary drinkability and superior quality.
