Description
What kind of wine it is
This red wine from Tenuta Ulisse is a true expression of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Made from Montepulciano grapes, it appears in the glass with a deep and intense ruby hue. The bouquet is broad and complex, characterised by notes of plum, cherry jam, tobacco and spices. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping structure, well supported by noble tannins and a long finish with hints of cocoa, coffee and vanilla. Thanks to its pronounced aromatic richness, it pairs perfectly with red meats, game and mature cheeses, also proving to be an excellent meditation wine.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in the heart of the Crecchio area, nestled on the Teatine hills at around four hundred and fifty metres above sea level. Here, the vines benefit from a sunny and breezy climate, influenced by sea currents that ensure balanced ripening of the grapes. The clay and limestone soil, deep and finely textured with tuffaceous subsoil, encourages the natural extraction of aromas and colour, precisely defining the territorial identity typical of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
How it is produced
Production involves a rigorous selection of the grapes and slight overripening on the vine. After destemming and crushing, maceration on the skins lasts for about fifteen to twenty days, a crucial phase for extracting colour and body. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. To refine its character and smoothness, part of the wine matures in French oak barrels for at least twelve months, resulting in a harmonious blend where fruity intensity is complemented by elegant toasted nuances.
