Description
What kind of wine it is
Cygnus by Tasca d’Almerita is a still red wine that blends the character of Nero d’Avola with the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon. An authentic expression of the Sicilian territory, this dry red blend boasts a clear fruity profile and a solid structure. On the palate, it is flavourful and refined, with velvety tannins and a vibrant savoury note that extends its persistence. The aromatic bouquet offers intense sensations of wild berries, cherry and jam, enhanced by spicy hints of vanilla and chocolate resulting from a meticulous maturation period.
Where it comes from
The grapes ripen on the hills of Tenuta Regaleali, in the province of Palermo. The vineyards are trained using the espalier system at around four hundred metres above sea level, an optimal altitude to ensure perfect aromatic ripening. Tasca d’Almerita manages the land using organic and sustainable practices, certified by the SOStain protocol. The unique microclimate and soil composition give the wine a distinctive character, with a well-ordered tannic structure and olfactory nuances reminiscent of Mediterranean scrub, liquorice and damp earth.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a traditional red fermentation at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing continues for fourteen months in fine French oak barrels from the forests of Allier and Tronçais. The skilful use of barrels of different ages enriches the wine’s complexity without masking the freshness of the fruit, resulting in a smooth sip with hints of tobacco. Perfect after decanting for about an hour, it pairs beautifully with roast pork, grilled meats and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Created as a tribute to Richard Wagner, who completed his “Parsifal” inspired by the swans of Villa Tasca, Cygnus is a refined blend of history and nature. Produced by the Regaleali Estate, active since 1830, this outstanding Sicilia DOC combines the native soul of Nero d’Avola with the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon. Multi-award-winning and cultivated at 400 metres above sea level according to SOStain sustainability principles, this prestigious red tells the story of Tasca d’Almerita’s expertise, offering an enveloping sip that celebrates the authenticity of the region.

The Tasca family is internationally recognized for its pioneering role in modern Sicilian winemaking. Since 2001, Tasca d’Almerita has pursued a project focused on enhancing native grape varieties in the island’s most vocated territories. Alongside Regaleali—the historic estate spanning approximately 500 hectares—new estates have been added: Capofaro on the island of Salina, Tascante on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, Whitaker on the island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in the Monreale DOC.
In 2019, Tasca d’Almerita was named "European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast magazine. In 2021, it became one of only 24 wineries worldwide to be awarded the prestigious "Green Emblem" for sustainability by Robert Parker – Wine Advocate. Since March 2023, already a Benefit Corporation, it has earned the esteemed international B Corp certification, joining a select group of companies committed to the highest standards of social and environmental sustainability. In 2025, Tasca d’Almerita received the "Historic Brand" recognition and was officially registered in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
