Description
What kind of wine it is
Guiry Sangiovese from Tenuta Mara is a biodynamic red wine with a moderately intense ruby colour that fully expresses the identity of the grape variety. On the nose, it weaves together aromas of broom and rose with clear notes of raspberry, blackberry and black cherry, finishing with elegant hints of star anise and ginger. The palate offers an enveloping softness, well balanced by a harmonious freshness and velvety tannins. A pleasant mentholated persistence defines the long finish, making this wine ideal for pairing with pork dishes and flavourful cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Emilia-Romagna, in the Rubicone area. The vines sink their roots into medium-textured clay-limestone soils, which are essential for giving the fruit structure and elegance. The vineyard management at Tenuta Mara follows strict organic and biodynamic practices, safeguarding the vitality of the ecosystem. This artisanal approach ensures sustainable viticulture, capable of translating the pedoclimatic characteristics into an authentic and local flavour profile.
How it is produced
After a careful manual harvest, the bunches are transferred by gravity into truncated conical oak vats. Here, spontaneous fermentation begins, carried out by indigenous yeasts, with no temperature control. The must macerates on the skins for about a month, then continues with twelve months of ageing in French oak barrels and small cement containers. A period of bottle ageing completes its evolution. To enhance its characteristics, it is recommended to decant for one hour and serve at eighteen degrees Celsius.
History and Curiosities
Founded in Emilia-Romagna in 2007, Tenuta Mara expresses the authentic vocation of the region through the Guiry Sangiovese 2022, a fine biodynamic red certified by Demeter. Under the guidance of oenologist Leonardo Pironi, this Rubicone IGT is produced from grapes lovingly cultivated on clay-limestone soils. The manual harvest and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in oak vats demonstrate a purely artisanal approach. Finally, the prolonged ageing on fine lees between French barrels and concrete tanks gives the wine an enveloping softness.

After buying the land in 2000, five years had to pass before they could implant the vineyard: seven hectares exposed to the gentle sun of Romagna. An area – next to the hilltop village of San Clemente – dedicated to a great Italian vine: The Sangiovese
Visiting Tenuta Mara means living an extraordinary wine experience, unmatched in its category. A journey which lasts about two hours, beginning at the park and at the works of art ‘En plein air’, continuing into the vineyard where the grapes are grown and then become ‘MaraMia’. Along the way, you will be lulled by the richness and warmth of the notes of Mozart which are diffused throughout the vines by a sophisticated BOSE speaker system. One can also hear the delicate chirping of the many birds that inhabit the estate, a genuine natural oasis, this is a symbol of a perfect ecosystem which was built with great skill over the years.
Indoors, the tour begins in the magnificent music room from which, via a staircase that is also a work of art, you enter the ‘sacred’ places of our wine: the Tinaia, the Cantina, The Bottaia. (These are where our wines are fermented, stored, cared for in the cellars). It is a marvelously sensory experience which ends with a tasting of the undisputed star of this beautiful and unique reality: The MaraMia. Read more
