Description
What kind of wine it is
Tenuta di Castiglioni is a Tuscan red wine produced by Frescobaldi, the result of a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. To the eye, it displays a bright ruby red colour with purple highlights. The aromatic profile releases hints of blackberry and blackcurrant, enriched by spicy notes of pepper, cloves and nuances of liquorice. On the palate, it is well-structured, smooth and enveloping, characterised by a pleasant freshness and velvety tannins that lead to a long and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the historic Tenuta di Castiglioni, located in Tuscany and owned by the Frescobaldi family since the eleventh century. Wine production in these lands has been documented since 1300, confirming the area's ancient agricultural vocation. The vineyards stretch along the Via di Castiglioni, an ancient Roman road that gives a strong geographical identity to the production. The characteristics of the land are reflected in a red wine with a balanced and bold character, capable of evolving beautifully over the years.
How it is produced
After destemming, the grapes ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with constant and gentle pumping over to ensure controlled extraction. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which gives greater roundness to the sip, perfectly integrating the acidic component. The wine matures for twelve months in oak barrels, before completing the process with a two-month rest in the bottle. This process imparts marked harmony and a velvety tannic texture, enhancing the wine's natural aromatic persistence.
