Description
What kind of wine it is
Erse by Tenuta di Fessina is an Etna Bianco with a straightforward character, created from a blend of Carricante, Catarratto and Minnella Bianca grapes grown on the slopes of the volcano. The glass reveals a bouquet featuring notes of pomelo and bitter orange, accompanied by broom, mountain herbs and white flowers. On the palate, it displays a marked freshness, supported by vibrant acidity and hints of flint and almond. The sip fades into a long, saline finish, ideal for pairing with delicate fish, shellfish, white meats and fresh goat’s cheeses.
Where it comes from
The vines grow between the Contrade Caselle and Volpare in Milo and Manzeudda in Biancavilla, at an altitude of over nine hundred metres. The volcanic soil offers great pedological diversity: in Biancavilla, limestone caves, clay and sands emerge, while in Milo, pumice, lapilli and fine draining ash prevail. This geological composition and the high-altitude climate define an ideal terroir, giving the wine a distinct mineral imprint and a distinctive elegance that faithfully reflects the landscape of its origin.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place in October. The process begins with static decantation of the must, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This technical choice enhances the clarity of the aromas and the liveliness of the fruit. The wine does not undergo barrel ageing, but is completed with bottle ageing which stabilises the acidic backbone and consolidates the aromatic profile, delivering impeccable taste balance and a harmonious sip.
History and Curiosities
The name Erse evokes the fresh dew of dawn and the deep blue of the Etna sky. Produced at altitudes between 900 and 950 metres following a strict organic approach, this fine Etna DOC expresses the authentic soul of the historic districts of Milo and Biancavilla. The dark soils, composed of pumice, lapilli and ash, create a distinctive volcanic terroir that imparts fascinating notes of pomelo and bitter orange to the glass. A liquid tale capable of transforming the energy of stone into pure, savoury elegance.
