Description
What kind of wine it is
Pino di Biserno from Tenuta di Biserno is a Tuscan red wine made from a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It appears a bright ruby red in the glass, accompanied by aromas of dark fruits, fine spices, leather and tobacco. On the palate, it is concentrated and elegant, supported by silky tannins that provide great balance. Notes of blackberry, cherry and morello cherry blend with hints of chocolate and a fresh minerality. Ageing in French barrels ensures a long and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This red is born in Bibbona, in the evocative Alta Maremma. The vineyards are situated at around ninety metres above sea level, benefiting from varied exposures and the moderating influence of the sea. The vines sink their roots into alluvial and clay-limestone soils, which give the wine freshness and precision on the palate. Tenuta di Biserno continues the project started by Lodovico and Piero Antinori with Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi and Umberto Mannoni, aimed at enhancing the terroir of Bibbona through meticulous viticulture.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous selection of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes from young vineyards. After vinification, the wine matures in French oak barrels for a period ranging from twelve to fourteen months, followed by a further year of ageing. This process allows for the development of a dense and very fine tannic structure, perfectly integrating the fruity character with elegant tertiary notes. The result is a vibrant and full-bodied sip, reflecting the concentration sought by the estate.
History and Curiosities
Born in Bibbona, in the exclusive terroir of the Upper Maremma, Il Pino di Biserno crowns the prestigious project launched by Lodovico and Piero Antinori in 2001. The result of a rigorous selection of young vines cultivated on alluvial and clay-limestone soils caressed by sea breezes, this seductive Tuscan blend matures for 12-14 months in French barriques, then refines for a further year in the bottle. The mastery of production and the uniqueness of the climate give the wine an elegant character and a prestige confirmed by the highest ratings from international critics.

The soils, mainly alluvial and clay-limestone, create an ideal environment for the selected varieties: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot.
The vineyard’s varied exposures and its distance from the sea deeply influence the varietal expression: hence the decision to split production into Biserno – the company's most prestigious and representative wine – and Pino di Biserno, which conveys the territory in a more dynamic way. Read more
