Description

What kind of wine it is

Champagne Tarlant Zero Brut Nature is a dry and complex blend that expresses the winemaking soul of Œuilly. The fine and creamy perlage precedes elegant notes of wax, honey, lemon and toasted hints. The blend harmoniously combines Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Petit Meslier, Arbane and Pinot Blanc. Crafted according to the Traditional Method, the complete absence of added sugars gives a lively sip with pronounced citrus freshness. Highly appreciated as an aperitif, it pairs ideally with sushi and oysters, shellfish and cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Œuilly, a historic area of Champagne, where the Tarlant estate cultivates fourteen hectares divided into sixty plots. The estate's approach is based on micro-terroir and separate vinification for each individual vineyard. The soils, rich in chalk, clay, sand and limestone, ensure extreme precision and expressiveness. The sandy vineyard “Les Sables” stands out, a rare plot that survived phylloxera, confirming the uniqueness of the area. Cultivation follows strict organic and sustainable practices, protecting the local ecosystem.

How it is produced

The process begins with the first fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the aromatic integrity of the fruit. The base is then enriched with reserve wines aged in oak barrels. The second fermentation in bottle takes place according to the Champenoise Method, followed by careful manual disgorgement. Malolactic fermentation is strictly avoided to maintain maximum taste tension. Thanks to zero dosage, the wine offers a dry and elegant profile, capable of faithfully expressing the authenticity of the blend.

History and Curiosities

Since 1687, the Tarlant estate has been cultivating vineyards in Œuilly with profound artisanal dedication. This Champagne embodies the authenticity of the region thanks to the strict zero dosage, allowing the grapes to fully express themselves without added sugars. The winemaker Benoît Tarlant enhances the nuances of sixty plots vinified separately, including the sandy vineyard “Les Sables”, which survived phylloxera. The use of reserve wines in oak and careful manual disgorgement impart a pure complexity, celebrating a genuine and centuries-old viticulture.

Tarlant is a small but extremely prestigious maison, rooted in the Champagne region since 1687, when the founder Pierre Tarlant began to cultivate the vine. A century later the Talant family moved to Oeuilly, in the Vallé de la Marne, where it contributed, with the first Cuvée Tarlant of the 1920s, to the so-called Révolution Champenoise, that is to say the prestige and excellence of French bubbles in the world.

Today, the Tarlant family owns 14 hectares of vineyards divided into 60 prestigious parcels, among which a free-standing plot (Les Sables) stands out, surviving the phylloxera epidemic thanks to the very sandy soil. Benoît Tarlant, representative of the XIV generation of the Tralant, cultivates these vineyards with great environmental sensitivity, attention to the micro-territoriality and the peculiarities of each individual parcel, demonstrating great qualities of vigneron and oenologist. In the cellar, separate vinification is preferred in barrique, but steel and cement vats are also used. We tend not to carry out the malolactic fermentation and the reserve wines are kept in cask.

Tarlant Champagne is rigorous, artisanal and complex, but it is not difficult or difficult. Tarlant was a forerunner in the 90s of zero doses and today all production, limited to just over 100,000 bottles a year, consists of pas dosé and extra brut. The style of these Champagne reveals a skilful and well-balanced use of wood and the exaltation of each micro-terroir: an elegant and balanced style that retains all the charm of the great Champagne.
