Description
What kind of wine it is
Taittinger's Chardonnay captures the essence of Champagne. Produced using the Traditional Method, it displays a straw-yellow colour with emerald highlights and a fine, creamy mousse. On the nose, there are notes of white flowers, mandarin and toasted almond. The palate is vibrant and savoury, with crisp acidity. The persistent finish combines minerality and hints of salted butter, making it ideal to pair with shellfish and lean fish.
Where it comes from
The grapes are sourced from the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger. This area of Champagne is distinguished by its chalky soil composition. The limestone soil imparts a distinct saline tension and mineral depth to the Chardonnay. The region's cool climate gives a brilliant acidity, carefully crafted to deliver a linear and precise expression on the palate.
How it is produced
Only the first pressing is used to ensure aromatic purity. In the creation of the blend, a small portion matures for four months in oak barrels, adding a toasted touch. After the secondary fermentation, the wine is aged for up to ten years in the chalk cellars of Saint-Nicaise. This prolonged ageing enriches the structure, refined by a Brut dosage that preserves the cuvée's vibrant tension and freshness.
History and Curiosities
The prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs by Taittinger is produced exclusively in extraordinary vintages, making it a true rarity. Crafted from pure Chardonnay from five Grand Cru villages, it uses only the first pressing for unparalleled elegance. A brief period in oak enriches the blend, which then matures through a lengthy ten-year ageing in the historic chalk cellars of Saint-Nicaise. This iconic cuvée from a historic family-run maison, acclaimed by critics, crowns the most exclusive celebrations.
