Description
What kind of wine it is
Spectacle Wines Espectacle del Montsant is a still red wine that intensely embodies the character of the Montsant region. Produced by Clos Mogador exclusively from Grenache grapes, it offers a complex and profound aromatic profile. On the palate, it is structured and elegant, with a solid texture and remarkable persistence. Expert ageing in French oak barrels enhances its drinkability, adding complexity and ensuring extraordinary longevity over time.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of Catalonia, in Gratallops, Spain. The vineyards stretch across soils rich in schist, locally known as Licorella, which naturally limit the vigour of the vines in favour of great expressive concentration in the grapes. The Montsant terroir shapes the character of the wine, giving it a rigorous structure and an authentic identity. The winery, founded in 1982, benefits from the technical vision of Roger Guinau Selles to maximise the potential of these lands.
How it is produced
Fifteen months of ageing in French oak barrels gives the wine a bright ruby red colour with violet highlights. On the nose, it opens with aromas of red fruits and orange peel, enriched by spicy notes and a hint of truffle. On the palate, the purity of the fruit is evident, supported by a powerful and enveloping texture. To best appreciate its qualities, it is advisable to decant the wine for an hour and serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C, pairing it with mature cheeses or pork-based meat dishes.
History and Curiosities
The Espectacle del Montsant embodies the excellence of the Clos Mogador winery, founded in Catalonia in 1982. This majestic Grenache comes to life in Gratallops, where the vines challenge the Llicorella schist soils to deliver a pure and unmistakable character. Under the guidance of oenologist Roger Guinau Selles, the 2017 vintage matures for 15 months in French oak, transforming into a powerful and structured red, capable of evolving beautifully over the next 10-15 years.
