Description
What kind of wine it is
Simonsig Frans Malan Cape Blend is a still dry red produced in the prestigious Stellenbosch area. This blend skilfully combines Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in a profile with elegant structure and remarkable depth. On the palate, it offers dense fruit, supported by silky, well-ripened tannins, with intense notes of black berries and sweet plum. The long, persistent finish makes it a perfect companion for hearty meats, pork-based dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes ripen in Stellenbosch, a highly prestigious area in South Africa's Western Cape. The wine is produced by Simonsig winery, a historic family-run estate deeply connected to the local wine-growing development. The label is a tribute to founder Frans Malan, whose vision continues to guide the estate's work. This deep adherence to its place of origin results in an authentic Cape Blend, able to precisely convey the region's complex oenological identity.
How it is produced
After rigorous selection in the vineyard, each variety undergoes separate vinification. The Pinotage macerates on the skins for six days, the Cabernet Sauvignon for twenty days, while the Merlot ferments for nine days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in barrels of French and American oak for seventeen months. The prolonged stay in wood smooths the structure and enriches the bouquet with elegant notes of vanilla, cedar, tobacco and dark chocolate.
