Description

What kind of wine it is

Silvio Nardi Rosso di Montalcino is a still red wine from Tuscany made from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, representing the Rosso di Montalcino area. On the nose, it reveals a pronounced bouquet of ripe red fruits and a distinct spicy note, with hints of blackberry, plum, morello cherry and rose petals, combined with scents of wild herbs and damp earth. On the palate, it is warm, smooth and full-bodied, displaying a well-defined structure with velvety tannins that are never aggressive. The organoleptic profile ensures an elegant balance between savouriness and the sweetness of the fruit, offering a pleasantly persistent finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from various vineyards located in the municipality of Montalcino, in the heart of the Siena region. The vines are trained using the spurred cordon method with a north-west exposure, set on soils rich in marl and sandy-marl formations at around three hundred metres above sea level. This specific combination of soil and climate favours a clear expression of the fruit, giving the wine an elegant tannic texture and intense continuity on the palate. Vineyard work strictly follows the principles of organic and sustainable agriculture, respecting the land to enhance its natural characteristics.

How it is produced

The manual harvest takes place in the first half of October to allow careful selection of the bunches. In the winery, total destemming is carried out, followed by a brief pre-fermentation cold maceration. Fermentation with maceration lasts for at least fifteen days at a controlled temperature. The wine matures for twelve months in new and used barrels of various sizes, then refines further in the bottle. In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red colour, offering a pleasantly enveloping sensation with a captivating balsamic finish. It is recommended to allow one hour of aeration and to serve between fourteen and sixteen degrees Celsius.

History and Curiosities

Born from the pioneering vision of Silvio Nardi, who acquired the Casale del Bosco Estate in 1950, this prestigious Rosso di Montalcino DOC represents the refined “younger brother” of Brunello. Aged for twelve months in selected barrels, the wine expresses the authentic soul of the Tuscan terroir thanks to rigorous organic and sustainable cultivation. The dedication of the historic family winery is celebrated by critics, as evidenced by the 93 points from James Suckling. A wine that elevates hand harvesting into a pure and elegant sip.

In 1950, Silvio Nardi , father of the current owners, driven by his personal passion for wines, bought Casale del Bosco Estate, located in Montalcino. The family business has been represented by the Nardi Company since 1895 – a very important building construction company for the farm industry machinery, which is still located in Umbria.

In 1958, when the Brunello Consortium didn't exist yet and Montalcino was but a small unknown village, the first Brunello bottle came from the cellars of Casale del Bosco. Today, we can affirm that Silvio Nardi was the first "foreigner" to invest in the Montalcino.

In 1962, the Manachiara Estate was bought, with its 40 hectares of vineyards, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, 25 km from Casale del Bosco. The Manachiara vineyards give their name today to the company's precious Brunello cru of the same name.
In 1967 Silvio Nardi was one of the founders of the Brunello di Montalcino wine Consortium.

In 1990 Emilia Nardi, Silvio's youngest daughter, took over the management of the company. She introduced radical changes in the process of wine production and company management and embarked on a process of restructuring both the vineyards and the cellar, choosing to combine tradition with scientific research.
